The Metro 6R4

The best hot hatch EVER made...

Forget the nova, fiesta and anything else you care to mention, nothing comes close to the metro 6R4.

6R4 info...
The 6R4 was Austin-Rover's attempt at competing in the rally events that would provide advertising for the company and their new hot hatch, the metro.
Taking a basic car shell and putting in a large powerfull engine is the usual recipe for success on the race track, but Austin made sure of success by putting in a 2.5 Jaguar V6 engine, with throttle bodies! This was one of the most un-thinkable things to do at the time, as in 1984 throwing a engine that put out 410bhp at the wheels into a lightweight car such as the Metro was seen as many rivals as stupid and crazy. But Austin had the last laugh, because when this thing hit the track it was un touchable by anything that Ford, Peugeot, Citroen, Toyota and Honda could throw at it, and stayed that way for 10 years! Even today the 6R4 is seen as the obvious choice for success in rally competitions. The car was also available for road use as well, and it featured a few more items over the rally model, but not a lot more. The only items it received over the rally model were indicators, number plates and seatbelts, as well as a standard road spec dash with less switches.
Many 6R4 have since travelled to metro heaven, either through niglect or accidents on track and road across europe
